CRRN Credential Validates All Rehabilitation Nursing Specialties
There are many specialties that offer credentials and certifications that may apply to aspects of rehabilitation nursing practice. However, only one certification applies to them all. Nurses who achieve the Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse credential demonstrate knowledge, experience and commitment to excellence in comprehensive care for people with physical disabilities and chronic illnesses in all specialties and settings of rehabilitation. Experienced and Knowledgeable

CRRNThe
CRRN credential requires nurses to have experience in rehabilitation nursing and pass an exam validating a documented level of knowledge of rehabilitation nursing practice. This exam covers the scope of rehabilitation nursing practice including
• Rehabilitation Nursing Models and Theories
• Functional Health Patterns: theories, physiology, assessment, standards of care, and interventions in individuals with injury, chronic illness, and disability across the lifespan
• The Function of the Rehabilitation Team and Community Re-entry
• Legislative, Economic, Ethical, and Legal Issues
VA Benefit
CRRN certification has been approved by the Department of Veterans' Affairs as an educational benefit for military personnel. If you are eligible, this benefit allows for reimbursement of certification fees.
Exam and Eligibility Information
The examination is offered in June and December via a computerized delivery system. Candidates may test anytime during June or December when their local test center is open and has space available.

Applicants for the
CRRN examination must have:
Current, unrestricted RN license
Completion of at least one of the following at the time of application:
Within the five years preceding the examination, completion of two years of practice as a registered professional nurse in rehabilitation nursing; or
Within the five years preceding the examination, completion of one year of practice as a registered professional nurse in rehabilitation nursing and one year of advanced study (beyond baccalaureate) in nursing.

Verification of Rehabilitation Nursing Experience
As part of the application process, you will be asked to provide contact information from two professional colleagues who are able to verify your rehabilitation nursing experience. One of the colleagues must be your immediate supervisor or another
CRRN. Your supervisor need not be a nurse. The second individual may be any other professional colleague such as another nurse, physician, therapist, or social worker.
If you are in independent practice or have left paid employment to provide rehabilitation nursing care to a family member and you do not have a supervisor or
CRRN colleague, you may be eligible for alternative verification.
The scheduling process begins approximately 40 days prior to the start of the testing window (ie. April 20 or October 20). The application approval process takes approximately 15 business days. Once your application has been approved, you will receive an e-mail containing a link to the examination schedule and you will schedule your examination based on the test site availability.Please be aware that each test site maintains its own schedule based on size and demand.

Each testing center maintains its own schedule, based on overall demand and scheduling constraints. Some centers have a limited schedule or limited seating. Testing appointments are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Not all international test sites are available for this examination.

Steps to Earning Your
CRRN Certification
1. Confirm Eligibility
Applicants for the
CRRN examination must have:
Current, unrestricted RN license
Completion of at least one of the following at the time of application:

2. Exam Deadlines and Fees*

Nonmembers: $400

3. Prepare for the exam
Candidates are strongly encouraged to review
CRRN examination content outline when preparing for the examination. The examination is based on current knowledge of theory and practice in rehabilitation nursing. The recommended resources listed here, although not comprehensive, may be helpful to review in preparing for the examination. Check with a local ARN chapter or within your facility to find
CRRN exam study groups.
4. Apply
Candidates apply for the exam via an online portal. Once your application has been approved, you will receive an e-mail containing a link to the examination schedule and you will schedule your examination based on the test site availability.
